I have always had a deep love for animals and the planet. We as human animals often see the fact that we have a higher intellect as a reason to decide the faith of the animals we consume, use, and test on. I see this intellect as a responsibility we have to keep this planet as green and as happy as possible and to harm no animals, human or otherwise, in the process. Thrifting gives me the power to not contribute to the horrible practice that is fast fashion.
I find it so much more rewarding to have less clothing now. It has helped me figure out what I really want to be wearing and what my style really is, separate from the trendy clothes at fast fashion stores.
I also think a change in mentality is helpful. I would rather wait and save up for a better quality item that I love to death and that will last me years, rather than spending money on lots of different fast fashion things.
Just picture that -- a woman not unlike yourself, stitching a top that says “Women's Rights are Human Rights" while in a crumbling factory, her small daughter wearing a face mask and hungry at her side, for maybe $150 a month. It's just unacceptable."
